WALKING Amongst the numerous walking trails marked by the CAI, there is one trail in particular which traces the stages of the third Punic war fought between the ancient Romans and Hannibal.  Starting from the Hotel, the trail leads up the nearby hills.  Reaching the top there is a spectacular view overlooking Lake Trasimeno, the largest lake in central Italy.  From there one follows the trail leading to the hamlet of Sanguineto, location of the battle.  On the way down there are glorious views of the Esse Valley and the Villa di Piazzano which at the time of the battle is thought to have been the Roman campsite.
